Equipment
Toby Jones has been playing guitar for a while now. His old sunburst Fender is still plugged into an old Marshall 50w head; he’s played it for years. As he thumps out riffs and bends those strings, I see his foot reach for his ‘cry-baby’ wah-wah pedal on the floor. Now I know my ears are in for it, about to be syringed by the volume of a tatty Marshall four-by-twelve speaker cabinet standing behind.
Influences
Toby has played in many rock bands in both Norfolk and Suffolk, drawing on many influences. By day, Toby is a secondary school teacher, working at Norwich’s Notre Dame High School. By night, he plays load guitar with attitude...the kids would be shocked!
Freedom
Toby has recorded five albums over the years and this music shouts of his influences. Turn on the MTV and they’re all there. The blues based rock style of this Suffolk lad cries Hendrix and Clapton, for Toby Jones is and will always be a guitarist. Toby records in a purpose built studio by a green just outside Norwich in Norfolk, where he lives in a little house with his wife Emma and Fabian their son. He has set a precedent for recording and playing most of the material himself but also credits the considerable talents of other musicians on some tracks.
